In our second event of the season after the summer break, and our first event in English after our holidays, our Sargeant at Arms for the session was Sebastian Ortega Torres. He opened the session and let Sean Palit, our beloved President, follow up with the welcome and introductions.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our Toastmaster of the day was Beatriz Garcia Diaz, who happened to have just celebrated her birthday the day before. You guessed it, the topic of the day was Birthday Parties.<\/span><\/div>\n

We opened with a joke from Enrique, which went something like this:<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Two friends are talking and one says to the other:<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cAnything you been up to lately?\u201d<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cYou know what, I like observing people lately, theres a lot you can learn from them by just observing\u201d<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cReally? Interesting. I\u2019ve started to like singing in the shower lately.\u201d<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n
\u201cI know\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n

This brought a quite a few giggles to the room and straight after we started the session.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n

The first speech was by Isabel Beltran, \u201cIs truth overrated?\u201d, her second speech from the Competent Communication Manual. She spoke a lot about how truth can be overrated and how sometimes you just have to face the truth.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
The second speaker was Stephen Karbaron, a visitor from another Toastmaster group in Barcelona. He started strong by shouting \u201cHELP!\u201d, his topic of the speech. He delivered an emotional speech in which he reminded us that all of us have to ask for help at some point in our lives. He came asking for help to create a Basket Brigade Team in Barcelona. <\/span>Basket Brigade<\/span><\/a> is a concept in which you try to do something nice for someone for nothing in return, such as feeding people in need. He asked us to help him start this. If you want to get in contact with him, send him an email at <\/span><\/span>relishsteve@hotmail.com<\/span><\/a> if you would like to help.<\/span><\/div>\n

The third speaker, Luca Magnani, another visiting member, coming from BCN Pride, gave a very convincing and professional Crisis Management speech, answering many difficult questions about the death of his friend poor friend \u201cJim\u201d.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
The table topic master for the night was Sandra Almeida Duarte who came all the way from the \u201cMossos d\u2019Esquadra Station\u201d. There were some funny improvisations, including one from Alba Lucia about a trip she had done when she was 16 to see Frank Sinatra, even though her dad didn\u2019t let her. Miguel tried to say sorry for forgetting his wife’s birthday. Hope she will forgive you! Sebastian tried to say sorry about buying his friend a fake football shirt. <\/span>Hope your friend isn\u2019t mad still!<\/span><\/div>\n

The session went quite well even though only 2 people managed to use the word of the day \u201cInsular\u201d, meaning \u201c<\/i><\/span>ignorant of or uninterested in cultures, ideas, or peoples outside one’s own experience\u201d <\/span><\/i>or \u201crelating to or from an island\u201d.<\/i><\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n

The feedback was great from most evaluators and everyone seemed to have a great time. Can\u2019t wait for the next event.<\/span><\/u><\/u><\/span><\/div>\n
